About Theresa and Twin Hearts Nursing Solutions

Theresa J. Ross is a nursing educator and clinician from New Mexico.  She is a wife, mother, and grandmother.  She has been married to Guy since 1991.  Together, they have 10 children.

Theresa is a nursing professional with a passion for patient advocacy and mental health healthcare.  She currently works part-time as a night nurse for the ICU and as a full-time assistant professor at New Mexico State University - Alamogordo.  In her spare time, she teaches childbirth classes, serves on the behavioral health local cabinet, and trains police officers in crisis intervention when working with populations exhibiting signs of mental illness.

Theresa values education. Her own educational achievements include:


  • Associate Degree in Nursing, from New Mexico State University - Alamogordo in 1992. 
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Eastern New Mexico University in 2010.  
  • Master of Science in Nursing Leadership and Administration from Capella University in 2016.
  • Philosophy Doctorate in Nursing Education from Capella University - in progress.  She completed her comprehensive exams in July 2019.  She is currently in her research portion of her PhD program.
Her dissertation topic is the experiences of nursing faculty who incorporate mental health topics into their instruction.  Raising mental health awareness and the dignity of the human person through quality, compassionate nursing care is a central goal of Theresa's nursing practice.

Theresa's educational philosophy follows Kolb's Experiential Learning Cycle with emphasis on critical thinking and active learning.  Her favorite nursing theories are Benner's Novice to Expert and Roy's Adaptation Model.

Theresa hopes that Twin Hearts Nursing Solutions will grow to be a vital resource for nursing and allied health education.  It is her hope that this website serves as an inspiration for current and potential healthcare professionals; while, providing vital resources to anyone who accesses the site.

Pretty much everyone has been affected by the COVID-19 response.  There is debate about whether or not we are prepared to deal with a pandemic.  We have been told to "flatten the curve" and "help healthcare professionals by staying at home." Why Calling COVID-19 Flu-Like Should Not Be Comforting

Obviously, with the outbreak of COVID-19 and the response, there is some discussion on the nature of the virus.  When the virus first broke news, many referred to it as a flu-like virus.  Now, many insist that calling this virus the flu is inaccurate.  But, is it? Part of the trouble with calling this virus a flu-like virus, or calling this virus a bad flu, is the colloquial usage of the word flu.  Many use the word flu to describe numerous symptoms that may or may not be related to actual influenza.
